CARY, N.C. – The first slates of pool play games of the 11U/13U edition of the NTIS Champions Cup were contested on Thursday and Friday. The first day of the event was shortened due to inclement weather in the area, and three sets of games were played on day two. Read up on the top moments from Cary.

SOUTH STRIPES COMBINE FOR SHUTOUT
Hunter Combs, Crew Huppert, and Charlie Anderson combined for seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 10 batters to open the weekend for the 11U South Stripes. The offense delivered as well, recording 11 hits and scoring 16 runs in the dominant victory over the Southeast Stripes.

CAN’T STOP CARTER
Carter Lewis went 3-for-3 at the plate and batted in four runs for the 11U South Stripes. He also plated three himself, accounting for seven total runs and making up nearly half of the team’s offense.

MATTHEW MAGIC
Matthew Williams and Matthew Owen combined for a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit and striking out five batters en route to a 3-0 victory for the 11U Midwest Stars.

SOUTH STARS SHOWDOWN
Sutton Shimek was hot at the plate for the 11U South Stars, recording two hits and two walks. He drove in a run and plated two himself as the South Stars downed the Northwest Stripes 9-0.

PERFECT AT THE PLATE
KK Baclig went 3-for-3 at the dish and recorded two RBIs as the 11U Southwest Stars took a commanding 7-4 victory over the South Stripes.

IT’S RAINING K’s
Tyler Frye started on the mound for the 11U Southwest Stripes and allowed just one hit and retired four batters in 2.2 innings. Levi Olivares tossed three innings of relief and allowed one hit while striking out four as well. To close out the game, Hunter Gossett tossed a scoreless and hitless frame to complete the shutout en route to a 4-0 victory.

SOUTH OFFENSE SETS THE TONE
The 13U South region’s offense set the tone at the NTIS Champions Cup, as the two teams are outscoring their opponents 41-5. The South Stars earned a 13-1 win over Northwest Stripes and a 2-1 victory over the Midwest Stripes, while the South Stripes shut out the Midwest Stars 20-0 and defeated the Southeast Stars 7-3.

TORREGROSSA PUTS TOGETHER FIVE-HIT DAY
Brady Torregrossa of the 13U Northeast Stripes recorded multi-hit performances in both of the team’s games Friday. He went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored against the Southeast Stars, then followed with a 2-for-2 effort, two RBIs, and two runs scored against the Midwest Stars.

OWENS, XU DOMINATE IN RELIEF
Jaxen Owens for the 13U South Stars and Ryan Xu from the 13U Southeast Stripes dominated in relief against their respective opponents. Owens threw five innings, yielded two hits, and did not surrender a run while fanning nine batters. Xu went six strong shutout innings out of the bullpen, allowing just three runners to reach base while striking out three batters.
