
CARY, N.C. – On a day of low-scoring offense, Navy and Red used solid pitching performances to earn hard-fought wins. With a combined eight hits in game one and 10 hits in game two, the offense came in phases.
TEAM NAVY 5, TEAM GREY 2
AS IT HAPPENED:
- Aiden Ruiz reached with a walk in the first and proceeded to steal second and third before finding his way home on a wild pitch.
- Going after hitters aggressively in his second inning of work, Logan Georges struck out the side. Georges finished his day with 2.0 innings pitched, giving up one hit and striking out three.
- Navy added its second run of the contest on a defensive miscue on a groundball, driving home Deion Cole and giving Team Navy a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
- Team Grey struck back in the top of the third; a defensive miscue on a fielder's choice brought home Jacob Lombard, making it 2-1.
- After a leadoff walk, Trey Rangel worked out of trouble, recording a strikeout for the first out and a caught stealing for Brady Murrietta on the same play.
- Lombard slid into home on a wild pitch, narrowly beating out the catcher to tie the game at two runs apiece.
- Jaden Jackson doubled down the left field line in the bottom half of the seventh, driving in two runs. Jackson later scored on a passed ball to cap off the three-run inning for Team Navy.
- Closing out the game for Team Navy were Wilson Andersen and Joseph Lawson. The duo went a combined 2.0 innings pitched, giving up two hits while picking up a pair of strikeouts.
NOTABLE STATS:
- Trey Rangel worked through the minimum in 3.0 innings of work. He recorded six strikeouts on his way to his no-hit outing.
- CJ Sampson was the only player to record multiple hits in the game.
- In Jaden Jackson’s only at-bat, he recorded the team high in RBIs with his two-RBI double.
- Amongst all the catchers in the game, seven runners were caught stealing.
TEAM RED 4, TEAM LIGHT BLUE 3
AS IT HAPPENED:
- Grady Emerson led off the game with a walk and followed it with a stolen base. Eventually, Emerson came across to score on a wild pitch, giving Team Light Blue a 1-0 lead.
- A defensive miscue by the catcher on a double steal of first and second scored the second run of the first inning for Team Light Blue, making it 2-0.
- Team Red scratched across its first run of the game in the bottom of the third from a Beau Peterson single through the right side.
- Team Red tied the game in the bottom frame of the sixth on an Eric Booth single, putting the score at 2-2.
- Yodelkis Quevedo gave Team Light Blue the lead in the top of the seventh. An RBI single by Quevedo drove home Landon Thome to take a 3-2 lead.
- A ball hit 100mph off the bat of Jaxson Wood tied the game, scoring Trevor Condon in the bottom of the eighth. A defensive miscue on a dropped third strike scored Wood, giving Team Red the lead.
NOTABLE STATS:
- Shawn Sullivan and Bryce Krenek combined in mid-relief for 4.0 innings of scoreless baseball, giving up one hit, striking out six.
- Booth recorded the team high in hits for Team Red with two and had one of the three RBIs.
- RJ Cope had two of the four hits in the game for Team Light Blue, including a double.
