CARY, N.C. - Luis D'Alessio (Red Bank, N.J.) and Kayson Cunningham (San Antonio, Texas) both went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as the Stars collected a 10-3 win over the Stripes in the opening game of the inaugural 13U Athlete Development Program on Wednesday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

Brevin Bezick (Red Bank, N.J.) got the start for the Stars in the game and picked up the victory. He tossed three innings and did not give up a run, while collecting three punchouts and issuing just one walk. Tristan Bristow (Helotes, Texas) also put together three strong innings on the mound for the Stars, giving up just two hits and no runs. The Stripes' Ross Felder (Springdale, Ark.) suffered the loss after allowing four runs on two hits in his three innings.

Offensively, eight members of the Stars squad recorded hits in the game, led by D'Alessio and Cunningham's multi-hit games. Luis Almeyda (Hawthorne, N.J.) led the Stripes at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Elijah Selga (Chula Vista, Calif.) added a two-RBI single.

Key Moments:

  • The Stripes scored the first runs of the game as Elijah Selga (Chula Vista, Calif.) knocked a two-out, two-RBI single to left field that allowed Linkin Garcia (Fullerton, Calif.) and Luis Almeyda (Hawthorne, N.J.) to cross the plate and give the Stripes a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • Louis D'Alessio (Red Bank, N.J.) tied the game for the Stars in the next inning when he launched a two-RBI double to the right-center gap.
  • Kayson Cunningham (San Antonio, Texas) gave the Stars a 3-2 lead one batter later with a single to left that scored D'Alessio.
  • In the top of the third inning, Michael Torres (Miami, Fla.) reached on a Stars error to lead things off before scoring on a single by Almeyda to tie the game once again, 3-3.
  • Kameron Davis (Albany, Ga.), who drew a leadoff walk to start the bottom of the third, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch to give the Stars back the lead.
  • With a three-run fourth inning, the Stars took a 7-3 lead courtesy of a Cunningham RBI-single, a Gavin Gargiulo (Coral Springs, Fla.) sacrifice bunt and a double off the bat of JD Crisp (Cypress, Texas).
  • The Stars added three more in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 10-3 win.

Notable Information:
