Stripes Use Early Offense to Take Down Stripes in ADP Opener

CARY, N.C. - After arriving to the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Monday and spending the morning working out and training, the 2021 Athlete Development Program players wrapped up their first day with the first of three Stripes vs. Stars games.

The bats showed up, as the Stripes knocked off the Stars, 15-4, in the series opener in Cary, North Carolina.

The Stripes put up 11 runs in the game's first three innings and never looked back to secure the win. The team was led by a pair of triples by Kevin Roberts, Jr. and Dean Hannah in the second inning of the offensive outburst, compiling 17 hits in the win.

Dylan Minnatee earned the win for the Stripes, tossing three innings in the team's victory. Wyatt Bauer, who pitched two innings for Team Stars, got the loss.

Key Moments

  • Ryan Harwood got the scoring started for Team Stripes, singling in a pair of runs with two outs in the top of the first. He then came around to score on a two-run double by Bubba Coleman, who later scored to put Team Stripes up 5-0.
  • Team Stripes extended its lead in the second inning. Sebastian Segura singled and then scored on a triple by Kevin Roberts, Jr, who then scored on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Dillon Adkins singled and scored on the second triple of the inning, this time hit by Dean Hannah. 
  • Already up 9-0, Team Stripes added a pair of runs in the third on an error and an RBI-groundout by Miles Scott to make it 11-0.
  • Team Stars cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Coy James singled, stole a base, and scored on a sac fly by Nikko Taylor to make it 11-1.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Team Stars added three runs. Donovan Jeffrey drove in a run with a double, and the inning was capped by a Luke Pappano RBI triple to trim the deficit to 12-4.
  • Riley Brown helped Team Stripes add to the lead in the top of the seventh. Brown led off the inning with a double, and two batters later, scored on a wild pitch to put his team up 13-4.
  • The Stars had a chance to strike back in the bottom of the seventh, with Evan Amos hitting a leadoff single and reaching scoring position with no outs. But Roberts, Jr. escaped the inning unscathed, picking a runner off second base to end the inning. 
  • In the top of the eighth, Rashad Hayes led off with a single and advanced to third on the basepaths. Jayden Stroman then hit a long sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Hayes and make the score 15-4.
  • Roberts, Jr. pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth to secure the win for Team Stripes.

  • The Stripes move to 1-0 to open the ADP, while the Stars drop to 0-1.
  • The team's combined for 25 hits in the series opener.
