PHOENIX, — Owen Carlson delivered a four-hit, five-RBI performance to guide Legacy Baseball Group Black to a pair of wins and earn Player of the Day honors on Day 2 of competition at the 16U National Team Championships Arizona.
Carlson, who also scored three runs, walked once and stole one base, owns a standout .667 clip at the plate through three games at the tournament. The 5-foot-10 shortstop delivered a game-tying sacrifice fly in the seventh inning of Legacy's early-morning game against Long Beach Bears and followed by reaching base four times (three hits, one walk) in the second game of the day against Arizona Travel Ball.
Carlson and Legacy Baseball Group Black sit at 2-1 following Day 2 of competition at the event.
Southpaw Myles Standish collected Pitcher of the Day honors after he logged four hitless frames and struck out eight in a 7-0 win for CCB National against Legacy Baseball Group Gold.
Standish, who struck out four of the first five batters he faced, combined with right-hander Paul Montgomery to pitch the shutout. He maintained a 65 percent strike rate and helped lead CCB National to its first win at the National Team Championships Arizona.
Standish also contributed on the offensive end in CCB National's second game Wednesday with one walk and one run scored in an 11-3 victory against USA Prime American.
