8-4 victory over Team Red gives Team Navy PDP League title

TEAM NAVY CAPTURES 2023 PDP LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 8-4 WIN

Tague Davis went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, and two RBIs to lead Team Navy to an 8-4 victory in the 2023 Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP) League title game at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

With the win, Team Navy finishes with a 5-1-0 record and captures the 2023 PDP League championship. Team Red finishes in second place with a 3-3-0 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Team Navy jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Bryce Clavon and Hayden Federico each singled before Davis hit a triple to the left field wall that scored both runs.
  • Levi Clark followed up with a base hit that scored Davis and gave Navy the 3-0 lead. Team Red starting pitcher Dane Moehler responded with consecutive strikeouts to end the frame.
  • Tague Davis took the mound for the Navy squad in the second and recorded consecutive punch outs to begin what would end as a three up, three down top of the inning.
  • In the bottom of the second, Bryce Clavon collected his second base hit to send Terrence Kiel II in to score from second and make it a 4-0 Navy lead.
  • After a scoreless third, Team Red managed to get its first run on the board in the top of the fourth. With a runner on third, Daniel Arambula picked up a sac fly that made it 4-1.
  • The Navy offense struck back in the bottom of the fourth with two runs of its own. Terrence Kiel II hit his second single of the day that allowed a run to score from second before he eventually crossed home himself to make it 6-1 thanks to a wild pitch.
  • The Team Red offense answered in the top of the fifth, when three consecutive singles loaded the bases and a wild pitch sent Dylan Fein in to score from third.
  • Samuel Richardson then stepped up to the plate and delivered a base hit that scored two more runs and narrowed the score to 6-4. Team Red loaded the bases again later in the frame, but Navy reliever Stunner Gonzalez struck out his first batter of the afternoon to end the half inning and preserve the lead.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Trey Snyder reached on an error and was eventually sent in to score thanks to a double by Tague Davis and a second error by Team Red. Davis came in to score following a wild pitch to establish the 8-4 lead for Navy that secured the PDP League Championship.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Levi Clark finished the day 2-for-3 with two base knocks for Team Navy.
  • Kaiden Lopez threw the final two innings for Team Navy and stifled the Red offense, striking out three of six batters faced.
  • In addition to his base hit and two RBIs, Samuel Richardson also finished with a stolen base for Team Red.

TEAM GRAY DEFEATS TEAM LIGHT BLUE 9-3 TO WIN FIRST GAME, FINISH THIRD IN PDP LEAGUE

Carter Johnson went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs to lead Team Gray to its first victory of the 2023 PDP League, a 9-3 triumph over Team Light Blue.

With the win, Team Gray claims third place in the PDP League and finishes with a 1-4-1 record. Team Light Blue falls to 2-3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • From the jump it was an exciting game with Team Gray striking first in the top of the first, as Ty Southisene scored on an RBI groundout by Carter Johnson after reaching base on a walk.
  • Team Light Blue did not let the run go unanswered and responded in the bottom of the first with three runs of its own. P.J. Morlando drove in two after smacking a double to left center with the bases loaded followed by Burke-Lee Mabeus crossing home on a passed ball.
  • Team Light Blue once again loaded the bases in the second, but pitcher Schuyler Sanford was able to secure the final out on a pop fly to left field and escape the inning unscathed.
  • Noah Sheffield made it a one-run game in the third when he scored on a bases-loaded walk by Konnor Griffin.
  • Carter Johnson propelled Team Gray into the lead in the top of the fifth with a two-run blast over the right field wall to bring home Noah Sheffield.
  • Team Gray increased its lead in the sixth inning with Konnor Griffin scoring on a single to left by JD Dix before both Nolan Traeger and Dix reached home on a throwing error to bring the score to 7-3.
  • Carter Johnson was back to add a few more to Team Gray’s total in the seventh, driving Jan Luis Reyes Camacho home on a single through the right side. Ty Southisene then scored on a throwing error by the catcher to increase Team Gray’s lead to 9-3.

  • Team Light Blue’s Carter Johnson was a force at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and four RBIs.
  • JD Dix was also impressive at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
  • P.J. Morlando led Team Light Blue’s offense with a 1-for-2 day with a double and two RBIs.
  • Team Light Blue’s Matthew Champion (1-0) came on in the fourth inning of a one-run game and struck out three to earn the win.
  • Max Charles (0-1) was saddled with the loss for Team Light Blue after giving up two earned runs in two innings pitched.
