Giacalone, Nichol Receive Player, Pitcher of the Day Honors for June 21 at Champs AZ

Phoenix – Frankie Giacalone went a perfect 4-for-4 and drove home six runs in his two games for CBA Victus San Diego to secure Player of the Day Honors on day two of pool play at the 17U National Team Championships Arizona.

Giacalone reached base successfully in all five of his plate appearances on the afternoon. He tripled twice against the Colorado Gold and drove in five runs to lead his team to a 17-7 victory. Through three games he has reached base in seven of eight plate appearances and tallied nine runs batted in.

CBA Victus San Diego (3-0) awaits its matchup for seeded play on Wednesday morning.

Wyatt Nichol (Whitecaps Baseball Academy) earned Pitcher of the Day honors after a 6.2-inning effort on the mound against OC Premier Navy in the second day of pool play.

Nichol had to exit the game due to pitch count before the final out, notching nine strikeouts while allowing just four hits. He threw 109 pitches to get the job done and got ahead of 17 of the 27 batters he faced on the afternoon.

The righty guided Whitecaps Baseball Academy (3-0) to an easy 3-0 victory in their game on Tuesday.
