PHOENIX — Playa Vista Orioles - National earned its first win on the opening day of pool play at the 17U National Team Championships Arizona on Wednesday with a 12-2 victory against Team Dinger.

Playa Vista's Liam Miller and Team Dinger's Toby Haarer worked back-to-back shutout frames to begin the game before the Orioles broke the scoreless tie when a run scored on a double-play grounder.

Consecutive base knocks from Matthew Quintanar and Jake Long extended the lead to 3-0 and a single to center off the bat of Greg Pierantoni brought the advantage to 4-0 in the fourth.

Team Dinger responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning, which included a sacrifice fly courtesy of Miles Crutchley.

However, Playa Vista's Liam Miller allowed just the two runs, only one of which was earned, through four innnings of work to keep Team Dinger's bats at bay for most of the day.

The Orioles added two more insurance runs in the fifth on a single from Matthew Quintanar. Playa Vista tacked on six more runs across the final two innings to bring the game to its final score of 12-2 and secure a tournament-opening victory.
