Hagerty 11, Christian Brothers College 1

Hagerty High School (Oviedo, Fla.) opened the USA Baseball National High School Invitational (NHSI) presented by the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance and the Town of Cary with a strong showing, besting Christian Brothers College (St. Louis, Mo.), 11-1, on Wednesday, April 3.
The Huskies wasted no time getting on the board, plating three runs in the top of the second inning before scoring a run in both the third and fourth innings to take a 5-0 lead. Christian Brothers College scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth, before Hagerty added four runs in the fifth to widen the lead to 9-0. The Huskies scored their final two runs in the sixth inning on a two-RBI double by Robbie Post.
2018 USA Baseball 18U National Team member Riley Greene (1-for-4) paced Hagerty with three runs scored on the day, while also recording two RBIs and a hit. Kurtis Byrne (2-for-3) and Kylon Cunningham (2-for-3) led Christian Brothers College with two hits on the day.
Trent Caples (1-0) led the Hagerty on the mound, hurling five innings while striking out five to earn the win on the mound for Hagerty. Christian Little (0-1) suffered the loss for the Cadets.
Hagerty improved to 1-0 in the tournament and will advance to face Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.) in the quarterfinals on Thursday, April 4.


Harvard-Westlake 6, Hendersonville 0

Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.) rode on the backs of a complete game shutout by Sam Hliboki to earn its first victory of the 2019 National High School Invitational over Hendersonville High School (Hendersonville, Tenn.) on Tuesday.
Hliboki, a 6'3" right-hander, was efficient on the mound all morning, needing just 68 pitches to work his way through the first five innings. That efficiency allowed Hliboki to cruise for much of the game, as he racked up eight strikeouts and allowed just one walk and three hits in seven scoreless innings.
The Harvard-Westlake lineup had run support contributions from seven of their starters. After jumping out to the lead in the third inning, they tacked on from there, with RBI-doubles from Michael Snyder and JP Corrigan helping them to push their lead over Hendersonville to 6-0.
With Sam Hliboki still on the bump in the late innings, Harvard-Westlake secured the victory. Hliboki earned the win (1-0) while Caid Sanders was credited with the loss (0-1).
Harvard-Westlake moves to 1-0 in the 2019 National High School Invitational and will play Haggerty (Oviedo, Fla.) in the quarterfinals on Thursday, April 4. 


Monsignor Pace 4, Corona del Sol 1

Despite Corona del Sol High School (Tempe, Ariz.) getting off to a quick start in the contest, Monsignor Pace High School (Miami Gardens, Fla.) used a big third inning to secure its first win at the 2019 USA Baseball National High School Invitational (NHSI) presented by the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance and the Town of Cary. 
The Aztecs struck first with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before Monsignor Pace took control in the third. With one out in the frame, the Spartans took advantage of an error and strung together three straight singles to secure a 3-1 lead. A sacrifice bunt would add one more to make it 4-1 and Monsignor Pace would ride that four-run inning to the seventh. Corona del Sol tried to put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with one out but Luis Gonzalez came in and shut it down to give the Spartans the victory.
Michael Machin (2-for-3) and Sammy Infante (2-for-3) both had multi-hit days for Monsignor Pace. Yordani Carmona got the win after giving up just one run and striking out four in his 6.1 inning outing, while Luis Gonzalez earned the win. For Corona del Sol, Kaiden Frees led the offense with his 2-for-3 showing at the plate and Nick Schobinger suffered the loss.
Monsignor Pace advances to the NHSI quarterfinals with the win and will play Huntington Beach High School (Huntington Beach, Calif.) at 10 a.m. ET in its first game on Thursday, April 4, at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. Corona del Sol will start day two of its tournament on Thursday against La Mirada at 10 a.m. ET.


Desert Oasis 4, Delbarton 3

Extra innings were needed to determine the outcome between Desert Oasis (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Delbarton High School (Morristown, N.J.), but Desert Oasis prevailed, walking it off to become the victors by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon. 
Delbarton came out of the gates hot, sending a pair of runs across in the top of the first, but Desert Oasis quickly answered back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, and they would take a 3-2 lead two innings later.
Down by one and with two outs in the top of the sixth, Desert Oasis tied the game up at three a piece with a sac-fly RBI, and after neither side scored in the seventh innings, extra innings were needed to determine a winner.
Campbell Holt stepped into the box for Desert Oasis In the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and two away. On a 1-0 count, Holt singled on a fly ball to right-center fielder, driving in the winning run and walking it off for Desert Oasis, giving them the 4-3 edge over Delbarton.
Jacob Walsh of Desert Oasis was the winning pitcher (1-0) and Matt Carey was credited with the loss (0-1).
With the victory, Desert Oasis advances to 1-0 in the 2019 National High School Invitational and will play Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) in the quarterfinals on Thursday, April 4.


Orange Lutheran 8, South Forsyth 2

Orange Lutheran High School (Orange, Calif.) started its title defense at the2019 USA Baseball National High School Invitational (NHSI) presented by the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance and the Town of Cary with a commanding 8-2 victory over South Forsyth High School (Cumming, Ga.).
The two-time defending champions got off to a strong start offensively in the 2019 tournament, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before scoring in every other inning but one for the win. The Lancers' defense was also dominant, led by Max Rajcic's start on the bump. The senior did not give up an earned run in his six innings of work, while striking out 10 and earning the win.
Orange Lutheran's Jasiah Dixon had a strong outing at the plate as he finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored, Greg Frei paced the South Forsyth offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Landon Sims was charged with the loss after giving up six earned runs.
With the win, Orange Lutheran advances to the NHSI quarterfinals and will matchup against Desert Oasis at 10 a.m. ET in its first game of the day on Thursday, April 4, at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. In addition, South Forsyth will start day two of the tournament in a game against Delbarton School (Morristown, N.J.) at 4 p.m. ET that will be streamed live on MLB.com, USABaseball.com and Facebook Live.


Blessed Trinity 3, Marist 0

Blessed Trinity Catholic High School (Roswell, Ga.) used a strong showing from DJ Radkte on the mound to top Marist (Chicago, Ill.), 3-0, to open the USA Baseball National High School Invitational (NHSI) presented by the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance and the Town of Cary.
Radtke stymied the RedHawks offense, allowing just three hits in his six innings pitched, while striking out four. The dual-threat Radtke (1-for-2) was a force at the plate as well driving in the Titans first run of the game in the fourth inning. Blessed Trinity added two more insurance runs in the fifth, before relief pitcher Dominick Marcoccio earned his first save of the tournament after closing the game out in the seventh.
Three Titans contributed an RBI to the cause, as Steele Chambers (1-for-1) paced the team with two runs scored. Three different batters recorded a hit for Marist, but the RedHawks were unable to scoring, leaving five men on base.
Radtke (1-0) earned the win on the mound for his performance, while Caden Carr (0-1) was given the loss for Marist.


Huntington Beach 11, Northwest Guilford 2

Huntington Beach (Huntington Beach, Calif.) put on an offensive display Tuesday evening to take their first game of the 2019 National High School Invitational over Northwest Guilford High School (Greensboro, N.C.).
Huntington beach wasted no time getting on the board as they scored three runs on three hits in the top of the first inning to take the lead.
Huntington Beach starting pitcher Joshua Hahn was effective on the mound, tossing five scoreless innings and tallying more strikeouts (4) than hits allowed (3). He also helped his own cause in the top of the fifth with a two-run home run hit down the right field line, extending the Huntington Beach lead to 5-0.
Northwest Guildford scored a pair in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it hardly put a dent in the 9-0 Huntington beach lead. Huntington beach prevailed with a final score of 11-2.
Hahn was credited as the winning pitcher (1-0) while Northwest Guilford's Hayden Summers was tagged with the loss (0-1).
The victory moves Huntington Beach to 1-0 at the 2019 National High School Invitational. The Oilers will play Monsignor Pace (Miami Gardens, Fla.) on Thursday, April 4.


IMG Academy 1, La Mirada 0

IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) came out on top 1-0 in a pitcher's duel against La Mirada High School (La Mirada, Calif.) on day one of the 2019 National High School Invitational (NHSI) presented by the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance and the Town of Cary on Wednesday.
The matchup was characterized by outstanding performances on the mound as IMG Academy's Brennan Malone and La Mirada's Jared Jones battled throughout the game. Malone earned the win thanks to his complete game shutout performance in which he gave up three hits and struck out eight. Jones suffered the loss despite his own stellar complete-game showing, allowing just two hits and one run with six punchouts of his own.
The lone run of the game came early when IMG Academy took advantage of back-to-back walks in the bottom of the second inning with a two-out RBI double off the bat of Tucker Mitchell. La Mirada could not break through IMG Academy's defense though and the Ascendants came away with the 1-0 victory.
Billy Underwood (1-for-2) and Mitchell (1-for-2) collected IMG Academy's two hits, while Jacob Sharp (1-for-3), Dominic Martinez (1-for-3) and Michael Deharo (1-for-2) led La Mirada's offense.
La Mirada will play a game on Thursday, April 4, at the National Training Complex against Corona del Sol at 10 a.m. ET. IMG Academy advanced to the quarterfinals with its win and will take on Blessed Trinity at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday for a chance to make the NHSI semifinals.
