CARY, N.C. - Northwest Elite took advantage of an eight-run second inning to claim the victory over Blue Chips by a score of 10-3 on the first day of the 2019 14U Cup at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

Northwest Elite jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning after Sam Shaw hit a line drive to bring in the first run of the ballgame and give Northwest Elite the 1-0 lead. The Northwest Elite offense continued to press and finished the inning with eight runs on seven hits, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch.

Bryce Johnson of Northwest Elite was 2-for-2 with a walk on the day while recording an RBI and scoring a run. Chase Diete and Amari Goodfellow were also large contributors to the offensive showing, posting two RBI's each.

On the mound, Northwest Elite utilized five pitchers to hold the Blue Chips to just three runs. Charles Goldthwait started on the bump, tossing two scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out one. Goldthwait (1-0) earned the win while Frank Adamski (0-1) took the loss. 

The Blue Chips are set to take on Team Elite American Saturday morning at 8:00 am while Northwest Elite will play at the same time against Syracuse Sports Zone.

• With two runners in scoring position and one away in the second, Sam Shaw lined a base hit to right field to drive in the first run of the ballgame and give Northwest Elite the 1-0 lead.
• Following an error in the same inning, Jay Mentik singled to center to bring the Northwest Elite score to 4-0.
• The following batter, Chase Diete drove in two more to make it a 6-0 ballgame.
• It total, Northwest Elite scored eight runs in the second inning on the backs of seven hits.
• Centerfielder Josh Frudenberg threw a runner out at the plate for what would have been the Blue Chips first run of the game in the top of the fourth, maintaining the Northwest Elite 8-0 lead.
• Amari Goodfellow hit a sacrifice fly to extend the Northwest Elite lead to 9-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
• The Blue Chips got on the board in the top of the fifth after Northwest Elite threw the ball away on an attempted double play, making it 9-1.
• A wild pitch in the same inning allowed Blue Chips to cut into the deficit even further, bringing the score to 9-2.
• In total, Blue Chips put together two hits in the fifth to score three runs and make it a 9-3 game.
• Amari Goodfellow knocked in his second RBI of the game in the sixth on a single to right center, extending the Blue Chips lead to 10-3.
