Season Summary

General: Joe Ryan was taken in the 7th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays out of Cal State Stanislaus. The San Francisco, California, native played with the Durham Bulls before being traded to the Minnesota Twins after arriving in Tokyo.

MiLB: In 36 Minor League appearances and 29 starts, Ryan has an 11-5 record with a 2.36 ERA and 234 strikeouts in 160.0 innings pitched. Ryan spent a majority of the 2019 season with the Charlotte Stone Crabs (Advanced-A), holding a 7-2 record in 13 starts with a 1.42 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 82.2 innings pitched. After the 2020 Minor League season was canceled, Ryan began the 2021 season with the Durham Bulls (Triple-A).

Amateur: Ryan spent his first three collegiate seasons playing at Cal State Northridge before finishing his career at Cal State Stanislaus. In that time, the righthander went 12-4 in 43 appearances and 25 starts. He held a 2.41 ERA with 201 strikeouts in 175.1 innings on the mound for both schools before starting his professional career.

Season Summary

2021 Qualifier: Ryan struck out 10 Dominican Republic hitters in his only start for Team USA at the WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier, allowing three runs on four hits over 4.2 innings of a no-decision in an eventual 8-6 victory.
