Day One of ADP Begins With Team Red Earning Win In High-Scoring Affair

The Contest Saw a Combined 14 Hits and 10 RBI's

CARY, N.C. - On the first day of the 2026 13U/14U Athlete Development Program (ADP) at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., Team Red earned a hard-fought victory over Team Navy with a final score of 9-7.

In an impressive offensive performance, Team Red used nine hits and seven free passes to tally its nine runs. Malachi Stepney dominated on the mound for Team Red, going two no-hit frames with two punchouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In the top of the first, Carlo Rivero started things with a bang to deep right-center field and hustled out a triple. Jack Mattingly followed his triple with an RBI double to left field, scoring Rivero.
  • Back-to-back free passes opened the bottom of the third before an RBI single by Jayden Portes and an RBI double from Wyatt Peabody tied the game at 3-3.
  • Angel Gomez worked through a clean inning for Team Red following a leadoff walk, retiring the next three batters in order.
  • The bottom of the second started with three of the first four batters drawing walks. With runners lurking, Team Red got back-to-back RBI hits from Joshua Pierre and Joshua Park, extending the lead to four runs.
  • Team Navy responded quickly with three runs of their own, highlighted by a two-RBI double by Christopher Cicero to bring the game within one run.
  • Hudson Roland tossed the first three-up, three-down frame of the game for Team Navy in the bottom of the third, tallying one strikeout.
  • After surrendering a leadoff single and a caught stealing by Cicero, Roland kept his shutout alive. Roland retired the next two hitters with a groundout and a strikeout to end the inning.
  • Tallying the third three-up, three-down inning of the game, Stepney worked through a scoreless frame, tallying a strikeout.
  • With two runners on base, Aaron Kim came to the plate and extended the Team Red lead with a two-RBI single to shortstop.
  • Coming back out for the top of the sixth and picking up where he left off, Stepney recorded another three-up, three-down inning with another strikeout.
  • Team Navy started the top of the seventh with back-to-back hits, a leadoff triple by Christopher Worrell Jr. followed by an RBI single from Kayden Paysinger, pushing the score to 9-7 for Team Red.

NOTABLE STATS:

  • Of the nine hits recorded for Team Red, eight different players tallied at least one hit in the contest.
  • Team Red recorded eight RBIs in the game, with four players each tallying two-RBI games.
  • Cicero’s RBI double ended up giving him the lead for Team Navy in RBIs, with two of the three belonging to him.
  • Between the two teams, there were a combined 13 runs scored in the first three frames.
  • There were two runners caught attempting to swipe a bag; both were by Team Red catchers Cicero and Worrell Jr.
  • Jack Carson, Colt Carter, Roland, and Stepney all recorded shutout performances on the mound.

August 2 is ADP Media Day and PDP testing, with no games scheduled. Team Navy and Team Red will resume play August 3 at 1:30 p.m. at Coleman Field.
