Red Defeats Blue To Clinch 12U National Team Trials Series

Red uses four late runs to defeat Team Blue

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Red used four runs in the final four innings to defeat Blue, 6-3, in the second game of the 2019 12U National Team Trials on Wednesday, at William S. Hart Pony Baseball and Softball Park in Santa Clarita, California.
Red took a 2-0 advantage in the three-game intrasquad series with the win. The 2019 12U National Team Trials will conclude on Thursday with game three at William S. Hart Pony Baseball and Softball Park.
Jesse Del Toro (Modesto, Calif.) (1-0) earned the win for Red after striking out a pair of batters in two innings of relief on the mound. Logan Shields (Manvel, Texas) (0-1) suffered the loss for Blue after allowing two runs and walking three in two innings. Blue's pitching staff struck out 10 batters, while Red's pitchers punched out six in the contest.
Gavin Fien (Temecula, Calif.) led Red offensively, recording two hits on the day, while Jack Armijo (San Lorenzo, Calif.) added a double and two stolen bases. Josiah Hartshorn (Anaheim, Calif.) led Blue with two hits and a pair of RBIs at the plate.

    <li 14px="" font-size:="" style="">Blue jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the third after Josiah Hartshorn (Anaheim, Calif) hit a two-out single that plated Jack McKernan (Missouri City, Texas.) and Bryce Nixon (Huffman, Texas) to give Blue a 2-0 lead. <li 14px="" font-size:="" style="">Red responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth as Elijah McNeal (Dublin, Calif.) scored on a fielder's choice and Jayden Stroman (Medford, N.Y.) crossed home on a wild pitch to even the score at two-all <li 14px="" font-size:="" style="">Nixon scored his second run of the game for Blue in the bottom of the fifth on an error by Red's shortstop, to give Blue the 3-2 advantage. <li 14px="" font-size:="" style="">Red's Gavin Hottle (Irvine, Calif.) tied the game in the top of the sixth with an RBI-single that landed in shallow center field. <li 14px="" font-size:="" style="">Red extended the lead to two in the top of the seventh after Jack Armijo (San Lorenzo, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch. <li 14px="" font-size:="" style="">Jaiden Lo Re (Phoenix, Ariz.) led off the top of the eighth for Red with a double to the gap in right-center and scored three pitches later before Armijo hit an RBI-double to give Red the 6-3 victory.
