Ten different pitchers took the mound in the last game of 12U National Team Training Camp, and all ten delivered as the Stars and Stripes battled to a 1-1 tie. The game caps off five long days of practice and games for the young stars, who left everything on the field at Thomas Brooks Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both starting pitchers were sharp in the early innings with Aiden Izquierdo dominating for the Stripes and Dominic Floyd battling for the Stars. Izquierdo struck out two hitters and allowed zero hits in two scoreless innings of work, while Floyd worked his way around three walks to deliver two scoreless innings of his own.
- Maguire Wright entered in relief for the Stripes and was masterful for two frames. The tall righty mowed down the Stars to the tune of a zero-hit, zero-run, two-strikeout outing.
- The bats finally started coming alive in the bottom of the fourth when Ransom Rasmussen laced a leadoff single to right. Caleb McDaniel followed with another base-knock to right, and Noah Dent worked a walk to load the bases. Antonio Rolando capitalized on the opportunity with two outs, smoking a single up the middle to score Rasmussen and put the Stripes up 1-0.
- Leo Fisher-Gil came on to pitch for the Stripes in the top of the fifth. Despite allowing a rocket double to Aiden Green, the righty tossed a scoreless inning. Atticus Arnold returned the favor when he took the hill in the bottom half for the Stars and set down three straight hitters on nine pitches.
- The Stars offense awoke in the top of the sixth when Carver Brown launched a one-out double to the right field corner. Brown scampered to third on a wild pitch to give the Stars their best scoring chance of the day, and Jaxon Knox smoked a hard groundout to tie the game.
- The final inning and a half featured more pitching dominance, as Kohen Davis, Noah Kirk, and Cooper Thissen silenced their opponents. Thissen closed the seventh inning with two strikeouts, and the game ended tied 1-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Four different pitchers posted multi-strikeout performances on the day in Izquierdo, Wright, Davis, and Thissen.
- The only extra-base hits of the day came from Green and Brown. Green’s long ball to center one-hopped the fence and likely would have been a homer on most fields.
- Chrischian Blanton and Koda Graziadei flashed their speed on the basepaths for the Stripes with the only stolen bases of the game.
- Blanton was the only player to reach base twice, thanks to two walks.
- Due to the final game ending in a tie, the Stars prevail in the weeklong series with a 2-1-1 record against the Stripes.
UP NEXT
