CARY, N.C. – USA Baseball’s 2026 18U National Team Training Camp Phase 2 continued its Stars vs. Stripes series on Monday afternoon at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The contest saw Stars secure a 6-0 win over Stripes, with an early lead and dominant pitching powering Stars to victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stars’ starting pitcher Connor Salerno opened the game with a 1-2-3 inning that included two strikeouts before the offense got it going in the bottom of the frame. Three straight singles by Dylan Seward, Sebastian Castillo, and Sebastian Wilson loaded the bases, and with two outs, Caden Borcherding drew a walk to bring home the first run of the game. Castillo then scored on a steal of home to give the Stars a 2-0 advantage.
- Stars added to their lead in the fourth. Borcherding lined a single to center field to get on before three consecutive walks loaded the bases. The final walk brought home another run, extending the Stars’ lead to 3-0.
- Stars broke the game open in the bottom of the eighth. Leading off, Drake Hawpe launched the second pitch he saw over the right-center field wall for a 393-foot solo home run, giving Stars a 4-0 advantage. Graham Houston followed with a single before Castillo lined a double to put two runners in scoring position. Chase Fuller then doubled down the third base line, scoring both Houston and Castillo and giving Stars a 6-0 advantage.
- Stars relief pitchers Camden Boehm, Isaac Vidal, Castillo, and Tyler Ransom combined for eight strikeouts and just one hit to complete the 6-0 shutout win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Castillo led all batters with three hits and two runs scored.
- Fuller recorded two RBIs, the most of all batters.
- Salerno led all pitchers in strikeouts, tallying four across 3.0 shutout innings.
- Boehm, Andrew Carlson, Samir Mohammed, and Vidal each struck out three batters.
- Boehm, Carlson, Castillo, Salerno, Ransom, and Vidal all turned in scoreless outings.
