CARY, N.C. – USA Baseball’s 2026 18U National Team Training Camp Phase 2 kicked off on Sunday afternoon at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, and saw the Stars earn a 4-0 victory over the Stripes. Both sides turned in strong pitching performances, with each starting pitcher tossing three scoreless innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first three innings went scoreless as both starting pitchers turned in dominant outings to open the contest. Stars’ starting pitcher Ethan Gustus tossed three scoreless innings, striking out five and issuing zero walks. Stripes’ starter George Ferguson also threw three shutout innings, striking out six and walking none.
  • Jake Ivey followed in relief for the Stars, tossing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
  • The Stars broke through in the fourth inning as two walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases for Chase Fuller, who lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to put the Stars ahead 1-0.
  • The Stars added to their lead in the fifth when Brogan Witcher led off with a double to center field before Jack Swanson tripled to right field, scoring Witcher and extending the Stars’ advantage to 2-0.
  • The Stars added two insurance runs in the seventh inning to build a 4-0 lead. With the bases loaded after a walk-hit-by-pitch, and Rylan Jenkins single, Sebastian Castillo lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home one run. Leo Nockley then delivered an RBI single to left field, scoring another.
  • The Stripes were unable to rally in the bottom of the seventh, finalizing the Stars’ 4-0 shutout.

  • Ferguson led all pitchers in strikeouts, tallying six across 3.0 shutout innings.
