Day five of 12U National Team Training Camp featured the final game of the Stars vs. Stripes Series—a series of intrasquad scrimmages serving to aid player development and the Task Force in evaluating the 36-player roster ahead of Today’s roster announcement for the 12U National Team.
Following yesterday’s high-scoring affair; today saw more of the same action from game two of the series. With nine total hits and a combined five runs, great pitching performances highlighted today's game.
With runners on first and second, a ground ball double play brought home the first run of the game in the top frame of the second to give Stripes a 1-0 lead.
Stars struck back instantly, getting their inning started with a walk to Mason Bitzenhofer, who advanced to third on LaQuienten Brooks' single. Later, Bitzenhofer scored off a sacrifice fly by Barrett Schell to tie the game at one.
Opening up the third inning with a double hit by Zachary Wilburn, followed by an RBI double from Kristian Valadez to retake the lead.
The game stayed 2-1 until the sixth behind dominant pitching performances from Hunter Sundby, Schell, Kayden Paysinger, and Christopher Chikodroff. Team Stripes’ pitching staff only surrendered two hits on the game picking up four strikeouts.
Putting the finishing stamp on the game was Matthew Vasquez, smacking a ball to deep right field for an inside-the-park home run. Stripes took a lead that turned out to be insurmountable, walking away from the final game with a 4-1 victory.
With the win the Stripes end the series at a 2-2 tie, concluding a week of solid baseball and evaluation. Following the conclusion of today’s final day of Training Camp, the 18-player 2025 12U National Team roster will be released. Stay tuned on X for all the 12U National Team action!
