CARY, N.C. – The 11U/13U edition of the NTIS Champions Cup wrapped up pool play on Saturday at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. Fourteen games were played on day three of the four-day tournament, with two contests resumed from Friday following a weather delay. Read up on some of the top moments from Cary.
WOOTEN WALK-OFF
The 11U Northeast Stars and 11U Southeast Stars battled for eight innings before Lynwood Wooten broke the tie in the bottom of the final frame for a Southeast victory. Runners stood on first and second as the count went full, but Wooten wasn’t going down without a fight. He lined a ball into right field and helped Southeast to a 7-6 victory.
11U MIDWEST STARS SHINE IN SHUTOUT
Joey Anderson, Ethan Mack, Easton Sloan, and Owen Roth combined for a scoreless outing on the mound, allowing six total hits and striking out seven total batters. The offense came through as well, plating eight runs en route to the 8-0 victory.
JAX WHITE DOMINATES ON BOTH SIDES
Jax White was on fire for the 11U South Stripes, fanning eight batters across three innings of work and knocking an inside the park home run to plate two runs.
LUCKY NUMBER TWO
The 11U South Stars came out swinging, scoring seven runs in the first three innings. Kai Stewart was a primary fixture on offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate, recording two doubles and driving in two runs. The Stars eventually went on to claim a 13-3 victory over the 11U Northeast Stripes.
SOUTHWEST STARS WALK IT OFF
After a back-and-forth game between the 11U Southwest Stars and the 11U Southeast Stripes, Southwest claimed the walk-off victory in the bottom of the ninth inning. With two runners in scoring position, Jackson Fockaert lined a single into right field to plate the winning run.
BROUGHT THE HEAT
13U South Stripes’ Nathaniel Alaniz turned in a dominant performance on the mound in his team’s 2-0 victory over the Northeast Stripes. Alaniz tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout, striking out five and walking just one.
K-TIME
13U Southeast Stripes’ Whitten Sanders came through when it mattered most, closing out a 3-2 victory over the Northwest Stars with back-to-back strikeouts to strand the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning.
SWINGING AWAY
13U South Stars’ Michael McSwain had a day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a single. He drove in three runs to help the South Stars secure an 11-9 victory over the Southwest Stars.
COMPLETE GAME
Two slates of games, two complete-game performances. 13U Southeast Stars’ Parker Jimenez went seven innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits while striking out five in an 11-1 victory over the Midwest Stars.
