
Durham, N.C. - The third annual 11U Futures Invitational kicked off at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, N.C. on Thursday with the first games of pool play.After sixteen games, the Mid Atlantic Royals, Top Tier Americans and Wilson Sandlot ended day one with a perfect 2-0-0 record. The tournament also had a record breaking performance from Kai Caranto who had a seven RBI game.

Game 1: 3D Gold 11, Austin Crawdads 8
This game featured 20 combined hits and 19 runs as 3D Gold (Ariz.) defeated the Austin Crawdads (Texas.) 11-8 on Thursday, June 29th at the USA Baseball 11U Futures Invitational. 3D Gold got the bulk of their hitting from the bottom of the order led by Samuel Soto, who went 2-for-2 with two RBI, Eddie Peters, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Tevyn Montgomery, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.
Josh Atomanczyk led the way for the Crawdads at the plate going a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI triple. 3D Gold used four pitchers in the game with KJ Scobey getting the win while striking out four in 2.1 innings on the mound.
Game 2: Top Tier Americans 16, NY Phenoms 0
Leadoff hitter Kai Caranto, who is a 2016 12U National Team alum, went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a tournament record seven RBI. This led Top Tier Americans (Calif.) to a 16-0 win over the NY Phenoms (N.Y.) in the 2017 USA Baseball 11U Futures Invitational.
Top Tier put up runs in each inning and scored seven in the third alone off big hits from Daniel Arambula, who had an RBI triple, and Miles Ghossein, who had an RBI single. The winning pitcher for Top Tier was Aaron Rojas who threw two innings, gave up no hits and struck out two. NY Phenoms collected hits from Maxwell Urena and Denali Rivera.
Game 3: CBA 3, Piranhas Baseball 2
Seven CBA (G.a.) players combined for nine total hits en route to a 3-2 victory over Piranhas Baseball (Texas.). CBA was led offensively by Ashton Lee and LJ Fielding who each had an RBI. Lee went 1-for-3 and Fielding went 1-for-2 while Tegan Melanson and Derek Bain both went 2-for-3 in the game.
Piranhas Baseball scored a run in the last half of the seventh on a sac fly but couldn't finish the rally. Brenden O'Connell got the win on the mound for CBA, throwing 2.2 innings while allowing one run and striking out one. Piranhas were led offensively by Morgan Sampson who went 1-for-2 in the game.
Game 4: Wilson Sandlot 4, Team Florida 3
C. Boyd went 3-for 3 with two doubles and had all four RBI for Wilson Sandlot (Ariz.) in a close 4-3 victory over Team Florida (Fla.) Boyd's double in the bottom of the second was a walkoff hit to score M.Bank and win the game for the Sandlot. Team Florida had eight total hits from eight different batters. They were led by C.Mallo who went 1-for-2 with an RBI. The winning pitcher was B.Burke who came in late in the seventh inning to secure the victory.
Game 5: Mid-Atlantic Royals 12, Midwest Select, 11
Jesse Nelson and AJ Torres led the way for Mid-Atlantic Royals as they won a close matchup 12-11 over the Midwest Select. Nelson went 2-for-3 with four RBI while Torres went 2-for-2 with two RBI. The Select scored seven runs in the last three innings but never took the lead. They were led by Aidan Brokaw who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. H. DeRias was the winning pitcher for the Royals late in the seventh inning.
Game 6: TBSA Patriots 10, Team California 9
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Team California's (Calif.) K. Reyes hit a dribbler to the pitcher which scored J. Solaras to send the game to extra innings. TBSA (Fla.) scored three runs in the eighth inning with RBIs from Dominic Cosenza, Jaxon Flournoy and Dominic May to secure a 10-9 victory for the Patriots. Team California got multi hit games from Kamdyn Perry who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Anthony Sweet who went 2-for-4. The winning pitcher was Flournoy who threw 5.1 innings with five strikeouts and allowed only one earned run.
Game 7: LV Rebels 7, Midland Seminoles 3
N. Keyes (Nev.) went 1-for-2 with two RBI and B.Mariano was 1-for-3 with an RBI as they led the LV Rebels to a 7-3 win over the Midland Seminoles (Ohio). All ten combined runs in this one were scored in the first three innings while the last four went scoreless on strong relief outings from the Rebels Mariano and Midland's A. Weber. Offensively, Midland got a multi-hit performance from S.Strosnider, who was 2-for-2 with an RBI single.
Game 8: San Diego Show 13, West Florida Hammerheads 0
Errick Barnes Jr. was 3-for-4 with two RBI and and Jose Mendoza went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI to help the San Diego Show win the eighth game of the day 13-0 over the West Florida Hammerheads. The Show also received a multi-hit game from Tyler Borrelli who was 2-for-4 with an RBI. The Show scored runs in each of the five innings on twelve hits and no errors in the field. The winning pitcher for the Show was Steven Castillo who threw three innings while striking out two. Ethan Suroweic led the Hammerheads at the plate with a 1-for-2 showing.
Game 9: Austin Crawdads 9, NY Phenoms, 6
The Austin Crawdads gave up three runs in the first inning but responded in the second with six runs of their own on a big two RBI double from T. Gillen and an RBI single from J Atomanczyk to secure a 9-6 victory over NY Phenoms. Gillen finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and Atomanczyk finished 2-for-3. The NY Phenoms got contributions from M. Urena, who went 2-for-2 with two RBI, along with R. Lee, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. The Crawdads used five pitchers in the game to secure the victory.
Game 10: Top Tier Americans 8, 3D Gold 6
M. Ghossein went 3-for-4 with one RBI and Kai Caranton went 2-for-4 with one RBI to lead Top Tier Americans to a 8-6 victory over 3D Gold. Caranton on day 1 of the tournament was 5-for-8 with two home runs, and eight RBI. C. Tinney went a perfect 3-for-3 for 3D Gold with two RBI along with J Lush who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.. D. Arambula finished with the win throwing 1.2 innings.
Game 11: Team Florida 8, Piranhas Baseball 7
Team Florida rallied for six runs in the last inning of the game to secure a 8-7 walkoff win over Piranhas Baseball. A single from Grayson Gibson moved Julius Pfau to third and an error brought in the winning run for Team Florida. It was led by Thomas Bly who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and Piranhas Baseball was led by Brady Corcoran who went 2-for-3 with three RBI. The winning pitcher was Alex Espaillat who came in for the final inning of the game to close out the victory.
Game 12: Wilson Sandlot 12, CBA 6
Ten batters had 15 hits for Wilson Sandlot en route to a 12-6 win over CBA. The Sandlot scored in all but two innings and were led by Cayne Kiillion, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, and Kaden Coutts, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. CBA had six runs off of seven hits and got multi-hit games from Brenden O'Connell and Ben Smith, who both went 2-for-3. The winning pitcher for Wilson was Carson Kuhn, who threw three innings, striking out two and allowing no runs.
Game 13: Midwest Select 10, TBSA Patriots 8
Four players from the Midwest Select had multi-hit games, including Mateo Rascon and George Nahas who both went 2-for-4 with two RBI in a close 10-8 victory over the TBSA Patriots. The Patriots had a strong showing from Dominic Cosenza, who tallied three RBI off two hits and scored two runs. The Select used five pitchers with Elijah Hurt getting the win despite only pitching 0.1 innings in relief.
Game 14: Mid-Atlantic Royals 10, Team California 5
Mid-Atlantic Royals finished with 12 hits in a 10-5 victory over Team California and were led by Christian Ovecka and Danny Torres who both had three hits, while Ovecka finished with two RBI. A competitive 5.2 innings on the mound from Jesse Nelson helped seal the victory. Team California got help from their leadoff hitter Parker Sobiesiak who went 1-for-4 with an RBI double.
Game 15: San Diego Show 13, Midland Seminoles 5
The San Diego Show had five multi-hit performances in this game, including Errick Barnes Jr. finishing 2-for-4 with three RBI and Easton Shelton going 2-for-4 with two RBI. The Show was losing 5-3 until the sixth inning when they scored ten runs en route to a 13-5 victory over the Midland Seminoles. The Seminoles had strong showings from Jayden Miller, who went 3-for-4, and Anthony Sedam, who went 2-for-3. The winning pitcher was Tyler Borelli for the Show who threw three total innings.
Game 16: West Florida Hammerhead 13, LV Rebels 2
Leadoff hitter Ethan Suroweic went 3-for-3 with three RBI in the final game of day one to help the West Florida Hammerhead defeat the LV Rebels 13-2 on Thursday night. The Hammerheads also saw a strong performance from Braeden Weckman, who also went 3-for-3 and had two RBI. The LV Rebels got RBI hits from Ty Southisene and Ethan Clauss. A strong three innings from Weckman on the mound helped secure the win and end day one of the 2017 11U Futures Invitational.
