Canes Baseball Secures 2018 10U Futures Gold

CARY, N.C. - Canes Baseball closed out the 2018 10U Futures Invitational with a close 3-2 victory over Victory Braves to secure the gold medal on Sunday at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina.
The first run of the game came in the bottom of the first inning as the Victory Braves strung together two singles to take an early 1-0 advantage.

It didn't take long for the Canes to answer though as the team tied things up in the top of the third after consecutive singles and an error plated one. In the very next inning, A Gannon Jones single brought another run in to give the Canes a 2-1 lead.
The Canes added to their lead in the fifth, scoring a run for the third consecutive inning, courtesy of a E Gilchrist two-out RBI single for a 3-1 advantage.
The Victory Braves got a rally going and cut that lead to one in the bottom half with their own RBI double. But the Canes closed things out in the sixth to claim the 3-2 victory and the gold medal.
Ethan Gilchrist, Miguel Delgado and Jones led the Canes offense with two hits apiece, while Gilchrist and Jones collected the team's two RBI.
Colton Haire got the start for the squad and gave up just two runs and three hits in five innings. Haire was also strong from the plate, going 1-for-2 with two walks.
For the Victory Braves, Diego Velasquez went 3.2 innings on the mound, striking out three and allowing just five hits and no earned runs. Tyler Young, Julian Weiss and Justin Maher got hits in the loss.
With the win, Canes Baseball finished the tournament undefeated en route to its gold medal and 2018 10U Futures Invitational title.
