National Team Development Program Selection Process

In 2024, USA Baseball will utilize a rolling invitation process for the 16U/17U National Team Development Program (NTDP) participants. A select number of athletes will be identified for the NTDP through various USA Baseball identification events: the National Team Identification Series (NTIS), the 16U and 17U National Team Championships, and recommendations from professional scouts; college, high school and youth coaches; and the amateur baseball community. USA Baseball will publicize the final roster through a press release and/or post to USABaseball.com.

NATIONAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

The primary identification vehicle for the USA Baseball 16U/17U National Team Development Program is the 15U, 16U, and 17U National Team Championships. To attend these events, players must compete for one of the teams invited to participate at either of the National Team Championship sites: Arizona or North Carolina. At the 2024 15U, 16U and 17U National Team Championships, USA Baseball staff and task force members will identify a select number of players for the 2023 16U/17U National Team Development Program.

Additional secondary events may be held throughout the year by USA Baseball at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., which may also be used to identify players for current or future National Team Development Programs.

NATIONAL TEAM IDENTIFICATION SERIES (NTIS)

Players may also be selected for the following calendar year's 16U/17U NTDP by competing in the NTIS. At the NTIS, USA Baseball Task Force members will identify a minimum of 12 15U and 12 16U players for the following season's 16U/17U NTDP. Twenty-four players from the 2023 15U and 16U NTIS have already been selected for the 2024 16U/17U NTDP.

ABOUT THE NATIONAL TEAM DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The 16U/17U National Team Development Program will consist of 72 athletes. All expenses regarding the 16U/17U NTDP are covered for the invited athlete by USA Baseball. This includes travel, hotel accommodations, food, and transportation. Once at the 16U/17U NTDP, players will participate in individual and team skill development sessions, various off-field educational seminars including guest speakers/instructors, and intrasquad games. USA Baseball will engage members of the professional and collegiate baseball community as well as USA Baseball alumni to serve as instructors and educators throughout the week.

The 16U/17U National Team Development Programs will be used to further connect identified athletes with USA Baseball staff to better prepare and develop the athletes for a future USA Baseball National Team experience.
