Coming to the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, Caden Heisey’s journey in the USA Baseball Pipeline has taken its first step. Heisey, the Pennsylvania native, made his All-Region Team for the 2026 12U National Team Identification Series (NTIS) Champions Cup.
The process to get here wasn’t as simple as Heisey thought, worrying if he would end up making his team. The tryout process is a test of its own – players take on regional tryouts along with participating in scrimmages in front of their regional directors. The pressure can be immense, and players have to learn to push through and play their best.
Heisey saw the fun in the process, and though there were struggles, he made the most of every situation. Whether it was always giving 100% or making a great play, Heisey was grateful for the opportunity to participate in the tryout.
“It was fun, but there were also ups and downs during the tryout with playing, but I was just blessed that I could get the opportunity,” said Heisey.
Getting the news that he made his All-Region Team, representing the Northeast region, Heisey had few words to describe the feeling. Though the words were short, the feeling he described summed it up well.
“It was pretty awesome,” said Heisey.
One part of Heisey’s career that not every player can say they have is a father who is a former big leaguer. Chris Heisey spent eight seasons in the big leagues playing for the Reds, Nationals, and Dodgers. Chris amassed a total of 380 hits in his career and 178 RBIs. With plenty of big-league experience, he certainly helped Caden with his development as a baseball player.
“My dad is a huge part of who I am as a player; he helped guide me to who I am today,” said Caden.
With excitement heading into the tournament, Caden had big hopes and ambitions to get out there and perform in front of the USA Baseball Task Force. Through his first three games in Cary, he is 6-for-8, including a pair of multi-hit performances, with three RBIs and a run scored. He even got the starting nod on the mound for his squad in its second game of the week.
“I can't wait to compete with all the other talented players here around the country; it's an honor to play for my [all-] region team, and I just feel blessed to be here,” said Caden.
With plenty of talent in store for him, the competition will be fierce, but Caden isn’t backing down from the challenge.
