Cary, N.C. –– Alex Bello, Gavin Chakar, Jaden Freeze, and Jayden Singer combined for 12 strikeouts for Team Stripes in game one of 15U National Team Training Camp at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, as they take game one over Team Stars.
For the Stripes, Trent O’Malley led the team in hits as he went 2-for-2 at the plate, while Freeze struck out four in relief as he picked up the win in game one of the series.
For the Stars, Jason Marll Jr. went 2-for-4 at the plate, leading the team, and Yariel Diaz started the game off strong as he struck out the first three batters of the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Diaz (St. Cloud, Fla.) got the nod for the Stars, starting the game off with three straight strikeouts in the top of the first.
- The Stripes got their first two runs of Training Camp with a pair of RBI groundouts, one by Jordan Leon (Northridge, Calif.) and the other by Pierce Buckley (Bakersfield, Calif.).
- Following a single to right by O’Malley (Great Falls, Va.), Nate Malone (Salem, Ala.) roped a ball down the third base line for an RBI triple and proceeded to score on a throwing error by the Stars in the third inning.
- Bello (Orlando, Fla.) started on the hill for the Stripes and allowed one hit, while striking out three.
- Chakar (Norwalk, Conn.) entered in relief and had two innings pitched and struck out four.
- Freeze (Hanover, Penn.) was dominant out of the pen as he tossed three innings, allowing no-hits and punching out four Stars batters.
- In the ninth, the Stars added one on a sacrifice fly by Ethan Stewart (Winterville, N.C.).
- An errant pickoff move by the Stripes in the bottom of the ninth plated two runs for the Stars, cutting the Stripes lead down to one.
NOTABLES:
- Bello got the start for the Stars and pitched two frames, punching out three, while giving up one hit.
- O’Malley led the Stars in hits as he went 2-for-2 at the plate.
- Marll Jr. (Catonsville, Md.) paced the Stars in hits as he went 2-for-3 at the dish.
- Mateo Mier (Sylmar, Calif.) was the third Stars pitcher of the night, tossing three innings of hitless baseball.
- Cullen Scott (Melissa, Texas) came on in the eighth for the Stars, tossing two innings of no-hit baseball, while striking out two batters.

15U National Team Training Camp will continue tomorrow with workouts in the morning, followed by game two of the series at 5 p.m. at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
