GIJANG CITY, South Korea - Pete Crow-Armstrong (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) recorded three hits and two runs to pace the U.S. offense in an 8-1 defeat of Chinese Taipei at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup on Saturday, August 31, at Gijang-Hyundai Dream Park in Gijang City, South Korea. Team USA improves to 2-0 in the tournament with the win.

Robert Hassell (Franklin, Tenn.) and Milan Tolentino (Mission Viejo, Calif.) added two hits apiece in the victory, while Tyler Soderstrom (Turlock, Calif.) and Austin Hendrick (Oakdale, Pa.) combined for five RBIs.

Max Rajcic (Fullerton, Calif.) got the start for Team USA on Saturday and threw 5.2 strong innings to earn the win, allowing four hits, one walk and one run while striking out two.

 

KEY MOMENTS

  • An RBI-groundout from Tyler Soderstrom (Turlock, Calif.) and an error brought in two for Team USA in the bottom of the first after Pete Crow-Armstrong (Sherman Oaks, Calif.), Robert Hassell (Franklin, Tenn.) and AJ Vukovich (Mukwonago, Wisc.) led off the game for the U.S. with back-to-back-to-back singles.
  • Colby Halter (Jacksonville, Fla.) added an insurance run when he led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and a stolen base before Milan Tolentino (Mission Viejo, Calif.) made it 3-0 with an RBI knock.
  • Chinese Taipei got one back in the top of the sixth with an RBI-single that made it 3-1.
  • Team USA added three runs in the seventh inning courtesy of an RBI-groundout from Hassell that scored Tolentino and a two-RBI knock from Hendrick that plated Crow-Armstrong and AJ Vukovich (Mukwonago, Wisc.).
  • Two more runs added some cushion to the U.S. lead in the bottom of the eighth when Soderstrom dropped a two-RBI double into left-center to make it an 8-1 game.
