
The final week of USA Baseball’s National Team Championships Arizona has transitioned into knockout play with 14U’s finest competing in the round of 32 and 16. Catch up on all the action below.
Round of 32
Seattle Select 15, CBA Victus 14U 6
The round of 32 began with an offensive outburst courtesy of Seattle Select. The team plated 15 runs in four innings to sprint away with a run rule win. Of the 16 hits, Seattle's Santiago Acosta went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI. Leadoff man John Huff added another four RBI, going 2-for-4 and scoring three runs as well. Seattle pitching combined for eight strikeouts as the team’s offensive firepower proved to be the difference in the first of the knockout games.
San Diego SHOW National 8, Trosky Arizona 2030 Regional
It took San Diego SHOW National just five innings to advance into the round of 16 with a dominant, 8-0, win over Trosky Arizona 2030 Regional. Third baseman Dylan Modic was on fire all morning long, swatting two triples and racking up three RBI in his only two at-bat’s. He provided the heavy lifting for starting pitcher Colton Cline, who worked all 5.0 innings, allowing just one hit to six strikeouts in San Diego’s statement win.
Top Tier United 11, Team Cal NXTGEN 14U 9
A back-and-forth game with four lead changes called on a strong offensive performance to walk away with the win for Top Tier United. With a five run lead going into the seventh, Team Cal NXTGEN pushed back to steal three runs, but it was not enough to get past Top Tier United. Juan Perez had a perfect day at the plate, including two doubles on three hits and two RBI. Gunnar Gehrts also earned a double in his 2-for-3 performance at bat, and collected an additional two RBI to add to Top Tier’s victory.
TB SOCAL 3, ZT Prospects 14U 2
Earning their first lead in the bottom of the sixth, TB SoCal pulled out a come-from-behind victory in the strong defensive matchup. Gavin Klovstad kicked off the two-run sixth inning with a single to left field, and Eli Guerra brought him home on a sacrifice fly to tie up the ball game. A bases-loaded walk brought the leading run across for TB SoCal, setting up pitcher Briggs Nelson to close out the game in the top of the seventh. The work on the mound was split amongst three where Klovstad and Drew Waibel each threw two strikeouts during their time.
Braves Baseball Academy National 13, Swarm Red Elite National 2030 3
A 12-run first inning for Braves Baseball Academy National catapulted them into a huge 13-3 run rule victory in just four innings. 16 batters stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the first, with John Dunbar smashing a two-run home run to left field to open up the scoring. Braves Baseball drew eight walks and tallied five hits in the inning, including a pair of doubles in addition to the homer. The first-inning outburst was more than plenty of run support in a dominant advancement.
GBG 2030 National 7, OC Premier 14U 6
Down two runs and facing elimination in the bottom of the seventh, GBG 2030 National put together three runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal a victory and advance to the round of 16. An explosive two-run double by Jaden Munoz tied up the game at 6-6, putting GBG National in prime walk-off position. An error for OC Premier on a ground ball hit by Julian Marquez gave GBG the one run it needed to walk away with the win. Munoz (3-for-3) and Matthew Noriega (2-for-2) each had a perfect effort in the batter’s box and brought home three respective RBI to be responsible for all of GBG’s RBI in the win. Jay Martinez carried the bulk of the work on the hill, pitching 5.0 innings with seven strikeouts.
Saddleback Cowboys 12, Cory Lidle 5
An 0-2 deficit after the first inning was not enough to phase Saddleback Cowboys, who came back in the second inning with a statement five runs to give them a lead through the rest of the game. Cole Dworzak had a game-high three RBI alongside a perfect day at the plate. Gavin Wilkinson also played a perfect game at bat, and came across the plate to score four of Saddleback’s 11 runs.
Quakes Baseball Academy 3, Santa Rosa Rebels 2
A gutsy effort from Quakes Baseball Academy relief pitcher Dylan Anda kept his team up for good in his 2.0 innings of scoreless baseball to keep Santa Rosa from inching back in it. Quakes scored three runs in the first three innings, as Santa Rosa punched back with two runs in the fourth, but couldn’t push across the tying run thanks to Anda’s efforts on the mound.
PFA National 7, ‘30 San Diego Ghost 5
After going scoreless in a 0-3 deficit through five innings, PFA National had a huge sixth inning to take a 5-3 three lead after six. Each team scored two in the seventh to send PFA National through to the next round in a 7-5 victory. Tyler Muramoto and Matthew Scott led PFA with two hits each, with Scott recording a game-high of three RBI. Johnny Ray Hernandez pitched all but one out during his 6.2 IP performance for PFA, and threw five strikeouts with only one walk allowed.
Canes West National 14, Legacy Baseball Group 14U Select
Canes West National sent 21 batters to the plate in just three innings, where they piled up 14 runs on 12 hits in a lopsided win over Legacy Baseball Group 14U Select. Right fielder Jordan Shaw was the catalyst of the offense out of the cleanup spot, going 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs scored and three RBI in an impressive showing. Starting pitcher JJ Zborowski allowed just two hits and coasted through the Legacy lineup as his team coasted to the round of 16.
Trosky National 2030 7 vs Prime CrownDogs 4
All seven of Trosky National 2030’s runs came in the fifth inning or later to cap off the comeback win over Prime CrownDogs. Trosky saw contributions from up and down the lineup, with five different players recording at least one RBI while Johnny Fuduric had two in the team’s round of 32 victory.
GBG Vegas 14U Red 6, Stacked AZ 4
A back-and-forth affair between GBG Vegas 14U Red and Stacked AZ saw GBG Vegas come out on top in a 6-4 win. Vegas tacked on four runs in the last three innings, which included a two-run single off the bat of Braylen Silva in the top of the sixth. GBG added an insurance run in the top of the seventh with Nicholas Stormer drawing a bases-loaded walk. Pitcher Aaron Machado entered in the bottom of the seventh to shut the door, where he recorded the final two outs of the game to wrap up the win.
Next Level Baseball 2030 12, TSB Reds Scout Team 1
Eight runs in the opening inning for Next Level Baseball gave a momentous lead that would help punch their ticket to the round of 16 after only 3.5 innings of play. Evan Allen and Matthew Inzunza each recorded a 2-for-2 day at the plate with two scores apiece. JJ Onofre posted a game-high three RBI with Clay Ford and Inzunza trailing with two each.
Legacy Baseball Group National 9, Dukes Baseball 0
Six innings of work was all that Teddy Osman needed to finish up an impressive shutout and complete game on the mound for Legacy Baseball Group National. Osman’s five strikeouts and scoreless performance gave momentum that translated offensively for himself and his team. Osman and Griffin Rasmussen led the game with three respective hits, with Rasmussen posting a 3-for-3 afternoon at the plate. Rasmussen also led with three scores and tied with Jaxson Singer for a team-high two RBI.
Hawaii Futures 12, Scottsdale Dirtbags Black 4
Spacious scoring and clutch offensive production helped give Hawaii Futures the offensive edge to withstand Scottsdale Dirtbags Black’s late game efforts. DJ Mizuguchi rolled a perfect day at the plate, collecting three hits and three RBI to lead his team. He also came across the plate twice to score. Mizuguchi and Maddox Prones each barreled up a triple with Jacoby Laranio and Mizuguchi each connecting on a double.
Scottsdale Dirtbags Gold 9, NorCal U 2030 1
After giving up a run in the top of the first inning, it was all Scottsdale Dirtbags Gold the rest of the way. Scoring at least one run in each inning at the plate, Scottsdale distributed an evenly-spread offensive game to close the game in a run rule after 4.5 innings. Finn Burns held things down on the hill for Scottsdale, pitching a complete game with three strikeouts and only one earned run. Troy Lydic assisted the offense with a game-high three RBI, all collected on a triple to center.
Round of 16
San Diego SHOW National 6, Seattle Select 14U 1
Alek Gomez delivered a spectacular pitching performance to open up the round of 16 and help his team earn a coveted quarterfinal position. Gomez threw an impressive six strikeouts in a complete 7.0 IP with just one earned run. On the other side of the plate, Dylan Modic tied the game-high of three hits, including a triple, and two RBI. Joey Ziomek collected the other three-hit game and rolled in an RBI to assist in offensive efforts for San Diego SHOW National.
TB SOCAL 5, Top Tier United 3
Jaxon Tran had a phenomenal performance on both sides of the ball to help send TB SoCal off to the quarterfinals. He dealt 5.2 IP on the mound with four strikeouts, and led his team from the plate with a 3-for-3 day and two runs scored. After losing the lead in the top of the sixth inning to trail 3-2, TB SoCal responded with three runs – all with two outs – that ultimately led them down the path to victory. Tran started off the momentum by getting on base with a single, and a double by Briggs Nelson later in the inning closed out a strong lead for TB SoCal to walk away with the win.
GBG 2030 National 12, Braves Baseball Academy 6
A 5-5 tie through regulation innings put both teams to the test as they battled to stay alive to the quarterfinals. GBG 2030 National exploded in the top of the eighth, scoring a whopping seven runs from clutch singles to take all the energy and momentum from Braves Baseball Academy. Aadin Rackow, Jaden Munoz, and Joshua Park all tied to lead GBG with two hits on the game, and Rackow led the game with three RBI.
Saddleback Cowboys 14U 12, Quakes Baseball 14U 4
Cole Dwarzak continued his impressive day for the Saddleback Cowboys, and sparked fire with three hits and three RBI during his time at the plate to lead his team. Offensive performance was evenly spread otherwise, with 10 out of 13 total players facing an at-bat today recording at least one hit. Scoring eight runs in the first two innings, some pressure was taken off the Cowboy’s pitcher Jax Barrett. Later settled in with his defense behind him, Barrett threw seven strikeouts with only two walks on the day.
Canes West 11, PFA National USA 14U 0
Canes West stayed rolling into the round of 16 and forced their second run rule of the day after only 3.5 innings of play. All 11 of the Canes' runs came in the first and second innings. Jake Morin held down the team from the mound, working 4.0 innings with three strikeouts to throw a complete game in shutout fashion. Drew Benson recorded three RBI and two hits to lead his team to a spot into the quarterfinals.
Trosky National 2030 16, GBG Vegas Red 1
Trosky National 2030 left no room for assumption in the round of 16, forcing a run rule after only three innings in a dominant win. Three players tied for the game-high of three RBI on the day, and five players tied for two hits earned. Nash Boller was one athlete to earn two hits and three for Trosky, and he led the game with two triples in his at-bats. Drew Shelton took care of business on the mound and threw two strikeouts in 3.0 IP.
Next Level Baseball 2030 7, Legacy Baseball Group National 0
The arm of Dylan Hottle propelled Next Level Baseball to a steady 7-0 win after his solid outing on the mound. In 6.0 innings of action, Hottle held Legacy Baseball Group National to just two hits, while allowing no runs and picking up three strikeouts. He passed the baton to Brandon Kurz and JJ Onofre to get the final three puts of the afternoon, where Kurz recorded a pair of punchouts and Onofre closed the door on a collectively dominant pitching effort in the 7-0 win.
Scottsdale Dirtbags Gold 11, Hawaii Futures 3
The top four of the Scottsdale Dirtbags Gold batting order was the driving force in the team's 11-3 win over Hawaii Futures. Jack Kinsler, Masin De Veris, Carlo Rivero and Troy Lydic teamed up to go a combined 8-for-12 with seven RBIs and eight runs scored. Catcher Maddox Bell cleared the bases with a three-run single, while Lydic, Amari Kirschner, Kinsler and De Veris each worked clean outings on the mound to keep Hawaii Futures in the rear view mirror en route to the quarterfinals.
