PHOENIX — Saddleback Cowboys Black used a seven-run first inning to advance to the Round of 16 with a 12-1 win against Juggernaut Group Baseball Academy on the first day of bracket play at the 2021 16U National Team Championships Arizona.

Saddleback's first eight batters reached base safely (six hits, one HBP, one error) in the bottom of the first after Juggernaut opened the scoring with a run-scoring double in the top half of the frame. The Cowboys took the lead on an RBI-single from Luke Johnson (3-for-3, 2 2B, 2 RBI) and broke the game open when Zach Fjelstad plated three runs with a base knock through the right side.

Saddleback added to its commanding lead with another run in the second courtesy of Johnson's first double of the day, and extended it to 12-1 with four more runs in the third.

Cowboys right-hander Jack Svinth kept Juggernaut's bats at bay and allowed just one unearned run in three innings of work. He struck out three. Austin Palmares fanned a pair in the final inning before a run-rule was initiated. Nine of his 11 pitches went for strikes.

Saddleback Cowboys Black (5-0) advances to the Round of 16 to play Total Baseball Vipers (4-1).

Juggernaut Group Baseball Academy (3-2) awaits its next opponent in the consolation bracket.
